From Clinical Laboratory Results to REDCap: An Automated Workflow for Longitudinal CAR-T Research Data

Abstract:
Clinical research teams often manage cohorts in REDCap, yet laboratory results arrive as large, per-patient Excel exports that are impractical to process for analysis. We built a single-institution prototype at LMU Klinikum: a Django drag-and-drop upload plus an R-based mapper that links each Excel file to its REDCap record and extracts selected laboratory parameters into repeating instruments via the REDCap API. REDCap provides the standard database and audit trail; our contribution is the end-to-end ingest workflow that turns exports into analysis-ready longitudinal datasets without direct source-system integration. Validated in 242 CAR-T patients at LMU Klinikum (65 parameters), it enables rapid, auditable access to routine labs for research.
