Innovative solutions are needed to maintain the quality of care, safety, and well-being of older people in long-term care settings. Radar motion sensors by QUMEA were implemented in a Swiss nursing home. Safety First is a longitudinal multi-method study. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of the technology on safety perception (nursing staff, residents, relatives), well-being (residents), and workload (nursing staff), as well as to gain insight into the technology adoption process. Perceived safety and well-being was high throughout the entire study period. Success factors for technology adoption included a positive corporate culture, continuous support, and integration of a trial period. Challenges arose in the form of technical problems (e.g., false alarms). This study provides important insights to inform future technology introduction processes.
