Multidimensional bibliometric analysis and global trends in the nervous system's role in bone regeneration

Objective:
Numerous studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between the nervous system and bone regeneration. However, there has been no bibliometric analysis or visualization of related publications through bibliometrics. This study aims to reveal the development trends, evolving themes, and major research topics in the relationship between the nervous system and bone regeneration over the past 20 years. Using visualization methods, this study provides a clear and comprehensive description of the research hotspots and frontiers within this field.
Methods:
Bibliometrics involves the quantitative analysis of scientific publications and their patterns. This study focuses on 1178 publications collected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), utilizing CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to analyze references, authors, journals, institutions, countries, keywords, and research themes. This comprehensive analysis allows us to identify new emerging research hotspots and thematic evolution in the field of neuro-bone regeneration.
Results:
A total of 1178 articles were retrieved, demonstrating a continuous increase in both the volume of publications and the annual citations related to neuro-bone regeneration research. Among all countries, China leads in publication volume, while the United States dominates both total citation counts and average citations per article. Among academic institutions, Shanghai Jiao Tong University emerges as the leading contributor. Notably, this study highlights interdisciplinary collaborations spanning biology and medicine, chemistry and physics, and other related fields. This reflects the complexity of neuro-bone regeneration as a research topic, which inherently requires multidisciplinary integration.
Conclusion:
This bibliometric analysis meticulously examines 1178 publications, providing an in-depth exploration of the relationship on neuro-bone regeneration from 2005 to 2024. The study effectively constructs a knowledge map, outlining the evolutionary trajectories of research in this field. By identifying popular trends and emerging hotspots, this research offers key insights that set the direction for future exploration and provide guidance for researchers in this evolving field.
