Abstract:
Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a non-invasive technique that can be used to characterize and measure in vivo biochemical metabolites in the human brain. MRS extends the concept of conventional magnetic resonance imaging, which primarily depicts anatomical structures, to provide metabolic data vital for comprehending the physiological functioning of a normal brain as well as pathological processes such as tumors, neurodegenerative disorders, epilepsy, metabolic encephalopathies, and psychiatric illnesses. To support clinical diagnosis and metabolite research, accurate quantification of brain metabolites, such as N-acetylaspartate, choline-containing substances, creatine, myo-inositol, glutamate, glutamine, and lactate, is vital.
