Allergic Status, Long COVID, and Post-Restriction Respiratory Outcomes in Children: A Single-Center

- Parents completed email surveys on SARS-CoV-2 infection, vaccination, persistent symptoms, allergies, and respiratory infections.

Main Results:
- Allergic status was linked to increased odds of Long COVID (aOR 3.12) among infected children, but not to a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
- Complete vaccination correlated with reduced SARS-CoV-2 infection risk (aOR 0.20) but showed no independent association with Long COVID.
- Post-restriction, 90.1% of allergic children reported worsening allergic rhinitis and 52.0% worsening asthma.
Conclusions:
- Pediatric allergic status is associated with a higher likelihood of Long COVID following SARS-CoV-2 infection, independent of infection risk.
- While vaccination lowers infection risk, it does not appear to independently influence Long COVID development in this cohort.
- Worsening allergic respiratory symptoms were common after restrictions, irrespective of infection history or allergic status.
