  • Supplementation with Astragali radix or a placebo was administered throughout the study.
  • Main Results:

    • No significant differences in muscle strength (MVIT, 1RM) were observed between the Astragali radix and placebo groups during the resistance training phase.
    • Both groups experienced a decline in muscle strength after the intensified training period.
    • Astragali radix supplementation significantly attenuated the increase in tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) during the intensified training phase.

    Conclusions:

    • Astragali radix supplementation did not provide additional benefits for muscle strength or prevent performance decrements during resistance and intensified training.
    • Astragali radix supplementation demonstrated an ability to mitigate increases in specific inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6) during periods of intense exercise stress.
