Atopic dermatitis can be diagnosed by history and exam. Commonly used diagnostic criteria include those developed by Hanifin and Rajka, the United Kingdom Working Party, and the American Academy of Dermatology. Currently, there is no clear consensus on objective laboratory biomarkers for diagnosis or assessment of the disease severity. Several validated instruments are recommended to standardize the assessment of atopic dermatitis in clinical practice. Both clinician-assessed and patient-reported outcome measures can guide treatment selection and support long-term disease control, enabling a more targeted and effective management approach for patients.
