  • To identify shared and distinct risk factors and their influence within a violence network.

  • Community-based random sampling of 2,223 men (aged 18-34) in Chengdu, China.
  • Network analysis using the Ising model to map violence-related factors.
  • Simulated interventions to identify key intervention targets.

Main Results:

  • A socio-psychological network revealed distinct communities for externalizing (interpersonal violence, stress, impulsivity, child maltreatment) and internalizing (self-directed violence, mental disorders) factors.
  • Psychosis showed high bridge centrality, linking different network components.
  • Child maltreatment had the highest network influence, and child maltreatment/anxiety were key leverage points for interpersonal/self-directed violence, respectively.

Conclusions:

  • Child maltreatment is a critical covariant influencing both violence types.
