Abstract:
The liquid-liquid interface (LLI) serves as an emerging assembly platform for nanoparticles (NPs), providing an ideal substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology. However, achieving accurate quantification of analytes with small Raman scattering cross-sections remains a significant challenge. This study presents a novel method based on the self-assembly of 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid (MPBA)-functionalized Ag NPs (MPBA@Ag NPs) at the LLI for the detection of Hg2+. Hg2+ is specifically captured by MPBA through a substitution reaction with the arylboronic acid group, inducing molecular conformational changes in the ligand, causing characteristic alterations in the SERS fingerprint signals, and synergistically promoting reconfiguration of the metasurface at the LLI. The sensing platform demonstrates excellent sensitivity with detection limits of 1.3 nM (reflection mode) and 2.2 nM (SERS mode), and exhibits highly selective ratiometric Raman responses toward coexisting toxic metal ions. The feasibility of the sensing platform was verified in real water samples.
