Digital technologies have been applied to various stages of the implant restorations of the complete edentulous jaw, including preoperative data acquisition of maxillofacial hard and soft tissues, data integration and surgical planning, guided implant surgery, impression taking, and prosthesis fabrication. This has initially established the concept, methods and techniques of the fully digital workflow for implant restorations of the complete edentulous jaw, which helps improve the precision, success rate, efficiency, maintenance, and long-term follow-up of the implant treatment. However, in clinical practice, there remain several unresolved issues in the fully digital workflow. This article will discuss both the progress and existing challenges in the fully digital workflow for implant restorations of the complete edentulous jaw, with a particular focus on current problems and challenges, aiming to provide references for further clinical practice and research.
