The Impact of Targeted, In-Depth Team Huddle Training on Nurses' Compliance With Blood Administration Protocols

Background:
Despite established protocols, nursing compliance with transfusion procedures varies. Traditional training often lacks reinforcement and practical application. Evidence shows that focused, evidence-based team huddle trainings improve understanding and compliance, promoting safer, more effective transfusion practices.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether targeted team huddle training on blood administration, as a supplementary intervention, improves nurses' knowledge and compliance with transfusion protocols.
Methods:
A pretest-posttest study was conducted using knowledge assessments and routine red blood cell transfusion compliance data from the hospital's electronic medical record.
Results:
Following huddle training, nurses' transfusion knowledge increased from 82.88% to 96.94% (P < .05), and compliance with vital signs documentation improved at all measured intervals, especially hourly temperature checks, which rose from 17.8% to 49.4% (P < .05).
Conclusion:
Targeted team huddle training significantly improved nurses' knowledge and compliance with blood administration protocols.
