Investigating the relationship between psychophysiological parameters and behavioral patterns in children aged 7-10

Objective:
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychophysiological parameters and observed behavior, assessed using the Frankl scale, in children undergoing dental treatment. A secondary objective was to evaluate children's self-reported discomfort using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
Results Description:
Post-treatment VAS scores increased significantly (P = 0.003), with the Frankl 2 behavior group showing the greatest increase (P = 0.001). Significant changes were observed in HRV parameters, including VLF (P = 0.005), LF (P = 0.014), HF (P = 0.024), and LF/HF ratio (P = 0.022), while SDNN, PNN50, and heart rate showed no significant differences. GSR responses varied by behavioral group, showing a significant positive shift in the Frankl 3 group and a negative shift in the Frankl 2 group (P < 0.05). Among clinical variables, VLF differed significantly according to treatment type, with the highest values observed during dental fillings (P = 0.015). These findings suggest that combining psychophysiological indicators with behavioral assessment provides a more comprehensive understanding of pediatric dental anxiety.
