Median Nerve Injury and Repair After Pediatric Elbow Dislocation Without an Associated Fracture: A Case Report

Case:
A 9-year-old boy presented with a severe median nerve palsy 6 months after a simple elbow dislocation. Neurotmesis was confirmed on surgical exploration, and it was repaired primarily in elbow flexion with the arm casted postoperatively. At 1-year follow-up from surgery, the patient reported near normal sensory improvement with motor deficits that did not affect his full return to activities.
Conclusion:
The median nerve neurotmesis after elbow dislocation without an associated fracture is rare. This case highlights the importance of careful neurologic examination in children sustaining simple elbow dislocations and surgical exploration if there is evidence of severe injury.
