This study aims to investigate the relationship between cultural competence and sensitivity of nursing students and their brain drain attitudes.

This study was conducted using a cross-sectional and correlational research design.

This study was conducted at a university in Türkiye in January 2023. The sample of the study consisted of n = 352 nursing students. 'Student Introductory Information Form', 'Attitude Scale for Brain Drain' and 'Cultural Competence and Cultural Sensitivity Assessment Scale' were used as data collection tools. Data were analysed using Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests.

In this study, 67.9% of the students were planning to live abroad when they finish university. Male students, those living in big cities and provincial cities, and students who had lived abroad before had higher scores on the Attitude Scale Towards Brain Drain. The scores of the cultural competence and cultural sensitivity assessment scale were found to be higher in first and 4th-year students, students whose longest place of residence was big cities, students who thought of living in another country after graduating from university. There was a weak positive correlation between the Attitude Towards Brain Drain Scale Scores and Cultural Competence and Cultural Sensitivity Assessment Scale Total Scores.

To mitigate brain drain, educational institutions should integrate comprehensive cultural competence training into nursing curricula. Furthermore, policymakers should develop strategies that enhance professional satisfaction.
