Abstract:
Intraoperative pathology consultations play an important role in surgical management of oncologic patients. The benefits of frozen section, and cytologic samples are well known and studied. We reviewed the literature and describe a case that highlights some of the advantages and limitations of the cytologic method. We propose a step-wise approach to adopt cytology as the primary method for intraoperative assessment in low resource settings.
