The paper presents a reproducible and measurement-oriented benchmark for selecting existing FFT windows in harmonic measurements under short-duration conditions. Candidate windows are assessed using amplitude-related error, THD deviation, and cross-case consistency. Their overall performance is then summarized through a direct quantitative ranking. Validation is carried out using APS1000-based records under waveform-varying, off-nominal, and noise-contaminated conditions. The main contributions of this work are as follows:•A measurement-oriented performance formulation is established for FFT-window evaluation using harmonic-related error, THD deviation, and cross-case consistency as the main comparison criteria.•A direct quantitative window-selection rule is proposed by combining these criteria into an aggregate score, from which the most suitable window is identified under the considered measurement conditions.•The proposed method is implemented in MATLAB and validated using APS1000-based records, including noise-augmented cases generated in MATLAB, under representative harmonic-measurement conditions.
