Nearly half of all tumours are attributable to potentially modifiable behavioural, environmental, and occupational risk factors. Strengthening preventive strategies is therefore essential to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with these cancers. This article summarizes the risk factors on which we can act preventively, both individually and collectively. It then addresses the topics of screening and interception, other cornerstones of cancer care.
