Background:

Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) and legacy patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are widely used in orthopaedics.
Mathematical modeling is necessary to link PROMIS and PRO scores for research and clinical use.
No previous linkage studies exist for foot and ankle PRO metrics.

Purpose of the Study:

To create linkage tables for PROMIS physical function (PF) and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) scores.
To establish a method for comparing PRO data in foot and ankle research.
To facilitate larger-scale data comparison in orthopaedic foot and ankle studies.

Main Methods:

Retrospective collection of FAAM and PROMIS PF scores from 745 surgical patients.

Correlation analysis between FAAM and PROMIS PF scores.

Application of statistical models (linear regression, equipercentile) for metric linkage.

Main Results:

All linkage methods achieved an ICC of at least 0.57 and R² of at least 0.49.
Linear and equipercentile methods yielded the highest R² (0.93).
The linear model was selected for population invariance due to a lower standard error (SE).

Conclusions:

Successfully linked PROMIS PF and FAAM scores for the first time in foot and ankle research.
Developed crosswalk tables to enhance data comparability.
Aims to improve data comparison in large-scale orthopaedic foot and ankle research.
