Abstract:
Intra-cranial calcification is one of the most common findings seen on cross-sectional neuroimaging using computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, both in pediatric and adult age groups. There are many underlying causes, such as age-related, physiological, congenital infections like cytomegalovirus, genetic diseases, metabolic disorders like Fahr's syndrome, endocrine, and neoplastic and inflammatory disorders. Through this review, we describe various physiological pathological and age-related calcifications in the brain. We also describe the characteristic patterns of calcification, along with specific clinical scenarios that may lead to the diagnosis.
