Experiment measuring the degree of inhomogeneous broadening in Cr:ZnSe

An experiment based on the Lamb dip in gas lasers, applied to Cr:ZnSe, was used to determine the degree of inhomogeneous broadening present. By using a self-injection scheme with a Cr:ZnSe ring resonator, the two different lasing directions were tuned to wavelengths independent of one another. This independent tuning allowed for the characterization of gain competition between the two directions for different degrees of de-tuning. Experimental error and wavelength tuning limitations prevented a robust determination of the degree of inhomogeneous broadening present. Our result provides a base for future work to improve upon and provides evidence of gain competition in a Cr:ZnSe laser for de-tuned longitudinal modes.
