    Area of Science:

    • Pharmaceutical Sciences
    • Toxicology
    • Public Health

    Background:

    • Poisoning information is critical for emergency response.
    • The pharmaceutical industry plays a key role in providing drug safety data.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the completeness and timeliness of poisoning information provided by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
    • To identify deficiencies in current poison information resources.

    Main Methods:

    • Surveyed manufacturers of the top 50 drugs.
    • Classified received information using established evaluation criteria.
    • Assessed compendia based on 11 components, including toxicity and emergency contact details.

    Main Results:

    • A significant portion of the available poisoning information was found to be incomplete.
    • Outdated information was prevalent across multiple drug compendia.
    • Gaps were identified in critical areas such as toxicity data and emergency service availability.

    Conclusions:

    • Current poisoning information from pharmaceutical manufacturers is inadequate.
    • A unified, centralized source for poison information is urgently required.
    • Efforts should focus on improving data accuracy and accessibility for poison control professionals.
