Abstract:
In this Backstory, the authors recount how a 10-year-old girl with rapidly progressive MDA5-positive dermatomyositis survived fulminant lung failure on ECMO and received compassionate-use CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T therapy. The interdisciplinary team then followed her immune reconstitution and clinical recovery, ultimately supporting discharge and offering a potential blueprint for personalized cellular therapy in similarly critical cases.
