Clonal hematopoiesis (CH) is characterized by the clonal expansion of hematopoietic stem cells driven by somatic mutations that confer a survival or proliferative advantage. In recent years, numerous studies have identified an association between clonal hematopoiesis and adverse cardiovascular outcomes, particularly thromboembolic events. This has led to in-depth research efforts to uncover a potential underlying causal link and to use this knowledge to find preventive strategies and treatments. Although these efforts have provided important insights into underlying biological pathways and possible clinical implications, significant gaps in both research and clinical practice remain. This article aims to summarize the current evidence and critically evaluate the existing knowledge gaps.
