Background:

  • Sacrocolpopexy is the standard surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP).
  • While laparoscopy is common, open sacrocolpopexy with enhanced recovery may offer similar outcomes cost-effectively.
  • Limited data exists on patient-reported outcomes after open sacrocolpopexy with short hospitalization.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the subjective effectiveness and postoperative satisfaction of patients undergoing open abdominal sacrocolpopexy.
  • To assess patient-reported outcomes following a 1-day hospital stay for this procedure.

Main Methods:

  • An ambispective cohort study included 106 patients undergoing open sacrocolpopexy with planned 1-day discharge.
  • Patients completed validated questionnaires (PFDI, PGI-I, SSQ-8) via telephone survey.
  • The study aimed for ≥62 respondents based on an 80% expected satisfaction rate.

Main Results:

  • A 72.6% response rate (77 patients) was achieved.
  • 92.2% reported no postoperative vaginal bulging; 94.8% experienced symptom improvement or resolution.
  • High satisfaction was reported: 90.9% with surgical results and 92.2% with the process; 93.5% would repeat the surgery.
