Abstract:
As a renewable material in nature, lignin holds great potentials as a renewable alternative to replace fossil fuels. Its unique aromatic structure and properties have attracted extensive research attentions. Compared with traditional methods for lignin depolymerization, the biological depolymerization of lignin was not only carried out under mild reaction conditions with low energy consumption, but also offers advantages such as reduced pollution et al. As a member of the peroxidase family, dye-decolorizing peroxidase (DyP) exhibits excellent lignin depolymerization capabilities, providing new insights into the bioenzymatic lignin depolymerization. There have been reports on the use of DyPs in lignin depolymerization. However, there is currently a lack of review on the application of DyP in lignin depolymerization. This review summarized the properties of various lignin and DyP followed by an overview of depolymerization reactions and their influencing factors, systematically analyzing the effects of these factors on the reactions and evaluating current strategies for improving depolymerization efficiency. Finally, based on protein engineering and other technologies, feasible solutions to enhance the efficiency of depolymerization reactions were also proposed, aiming to promote better application of DyP in lignin depolymerization.
