The risk of 239Pu migration in environment and entry into the ecosystem through the food chain makes it a key radioactive nuclide of concern. Under the terrestrial surface scenario, the mobilization and cellular uptake of 239Pu from radioactive contaminated soils in the presence of microbial siderophores are important mechanisms of 239Pu speciation evolution and transportation in ecosystem. In this paper, for the first time, a 30-d extraction experiments were carried out in 239Pu spiked soils using pyoverdine (PVD) as extraction reagent, comparing with the small-molecule organic extractants AHA and EDTA. Changes of Pu speciation were obtained by determining the mass fraction before and after extraction, and Pu speciation evolution mechanisms were also analyzed and discussed. Results showed that PVD can extract Pu from soil into solution by binding Pu through chelation and forming hydrophilic complexes, and the reaction rate is not as high as that of small-molecule organic extractants. PVD is highly selective for Fe-Mn oxides associated and 7M HNO3 leachable Pu, which can convert the two speciation into organic matter associated and carbonates associated speciation. Such conversion may play an important role in the formation and evolution of organic matter associated Pu in the radioactive contaminated soil.
