Amorphous Ni3MnB nanoparticles were designed and prepared as catalysts for significantly improving the hydrogen storage performance of LiBH4. During dehydrogenation, an active Ni4B3 phase was in situ formed, reducing the initial dehydrogenation temperature of LiBH4 to 40 °C while inhibiting the formation of the intermediate phase Li2B12H12 (boron trap) in a single step. This study presents an efficient amorphous multicomponent alloy catalyst for low-temperature LiBH4 dehydrogenation, offering a viable strategy to circumvent the boron trap formation.
