Exploration of theoretical foundations and the absence of native theory in pharmacy
1Purdue University College of Pharmacy, West Lafayette, IN, USA.
Abstract:
The author began with an intent to perform a literature review of Pharmacy and Theory in order to introduce a theoretical model of the practice of Pharmacy. As shown here, a literature review of the Pharmacy literature and theory identified numerous theories utilized within Pharmacy to explain physical phenomena such as dosage formulation, medicinal chemistry, etc. When it comes to Pharmacy Practice, however, while numerous theories have been used in an effort to explore aspects of practice, it is shown that the profession suffers from an absence of exploratory theories that are native to the profession. The consequences of the use of non-native theories and the absence of native theoretical frameworks on the profession's development are discussed.
