Identifying good organizational practices through the McKinsey 7S framework: A case study of an ophthalmology clinic

Patient safety represents a cornerstone of high-quality healthcare and holds particular significance in ophthalmology, where precision, governance, and adherence to best practices are essential. To sustain and improve such standards, strategic management tools like the McKinsey 7S Framework offer a comprehensive approach to evaluate internal organizational alignment and its impact on performance, communication, and continuous improvement.

The study was conducted at the Nour Ophthalmology Clinic in Casablanca, Morocco. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire based on the McKinsey 7S framework, administered to 30 staff members. Data collection was conducted using Sphinx V5 and Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics V25.

The findings revealed a strong alignment of the clinic's practices with the components of the 7S model. Leadership was found to be particularly effective, characterized by engagement, optimal communication, and a focus on continuous improvement. Management emphasis on single-use equipment was also seen as a factor enhancing both patient safety and staff engagement.

Despite positive overall performance, the study identified areas for improvement, notably the need to formalize and strengthen training program evaluations, clarify roles and responsibilities, and improve awareness of process mapping. While the results reflect one clinic's context, they provide valuable insights and highlight the potential of the McKinsey 7S model for assessing organizational performance in healthcare.
