Imaging Studies VII: Vascular Imaging

DefinitionRenal angiography, also known as renal arteriography, is an imaging technique used to obtain a comprehensive view of blood flow and the vascular structure of blood vessels in the kidneys and surrounding areas.PurposeRenal angiography detects blood vessel abnormalities in the kidneys, such as aneurysms, stenosis, thrombosis, vascular tumors, and renal artery stenosis. It evaluates kidney function and guides interventional treatments like angioplasty or stent placement.Pre-Procedure...

Kidney Transplant II: Surgical Procedure

Preoperative ManagementThe primary goals of preoperative management in kidney transplantation are to optimize the patient’s metabolic state and prepare them for surgery through diet adjustments, necessary dialysis, and tailored medical treatment. This phase also involves comprehensive infection screening and patient education about the surgical procedure and postoperative care to improve outcomes and adherence.Medical ManagementA comprehensive evaluation is required for both the living donor...

Summary

Spontaneous perinephric hematoma (SPH), a rare emergency, can result from ruptured renal angiomyolipoma (AML). This case highlights successful transarterial embolization for a ruptured AML with complex aneurysms, preserving kidney function.

Area of Science:

  • Nephrology
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Spontaneous perinephric hematoma (SPH), or Wunderlich syndrome, is a rare emergency often caused by ruptured renal angiomyolipoma (AML).
