Background:
Arteriosclerosis is a leading cause of cardiovascular events and effective predictive tools are required for its prevention. The AVE-1500 device noninvasively measures the arterial pressure volume index (API) and arterial velocity pulse index (AVI), which reflect arterial stiffness and central pressure, using upper-arm cuff oscillometric inflation. This study aimed to investigate the long-term prognosis of these novel noninvasive vascular indices, API and AVI, in outpatients with diverse clinical backgrounds.
Methods Results:
In this retrospective, single-center, observational cohort study, 230 outpatients with diverse clinical profiles were monitored over an average follow-up period of 2473 days. Of the patients, 61.8% were men, and the overall mean age was 68.5 ± 12.1 years. The mean API and AVI were 32.5 and 23.9, respectively. Patients were stratified based on API (≤ 32.0 vs. > 32.0) and AVI (≤ 27.0 vs. > 27.0). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed significant differences in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular events, and the composite endpoint between the groups ( P < 0.05).
Conclusion:
This study found that API and AVI have long-term prognostic value in patients at risk of arteriosclerosis.
