Development and Psychometric Validation of the Malignant Hyperthermia Knowledge Level Scale: A Methodological Study

Purpose:
The objective of this study was to develop the Malignant Hyperthermia Knowledge Level Scale and assess its psychometric properties.
Design:
Methodological study.
Methods:
This study was conducted on 306 operating room nurses between April 2024 and June 2025. A draft scale with 30 items was developed from the literature. The items were refined based on feedback obtained through expert review. The content validity index was found to be at an acceptable level after evaluation by 10 experts. The psychometric evaluation process involved exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest.
Findings:
Exploratory factor analysis yielded a 13-item structure with three factors. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit indices were within acceptable ranges. The overall Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.903, indicating high internal consistency. Test-retest results also showed that the scale produced consistent results over time.
Conclusions:
The Malignant Hyperthermia Knowledge Level Scale is a valid and reliable instrument developed to evaluate operating room nurses' knowledge of malignant hyperthermia.
