[Robotic surgery in oncologic procedures: Overview of platforms currently available in France and practical

Abstract:
Robotic-assisted surgery has become a major modality of minimally invasive surgery in oncology. Initially dominated by a single platform, the robotic surgery landscape has diversified with the introduction of new systems offering different architectures, workflows, and organizational models. This evolution raises important challenges related to technology selection, training, operating room organization, and medico-economic evaluation. The aim of this article is to provide a descriptive overview of the main robotic surgery platforms currently available in France for oncologic surgery. This review does not seek to rank devices or compare oncologic effectiveness, given the lack of direct comparative trials, but rather to offer a practical framework based on technical features, organizational aspects, and available clinical evidence. Key comparison criteria are discussed, followed by standardized descriptions of each platform. The specific benefits and limitations of robotic surgery in oncology are then addressed, emphasizing the importance of patient selection, surgical expertise, and institutional organization.
