Background/Aim:
Perineal ectopic testis (PET) is a very rare condition in the spectrum of abnormally located testis and should be looked for in all children with an empty scrotum who do not have undescended testis (UDT). While the etiology of testicular ectopia is not completely known, the complications are similar to that of UDT, and timely placement in scrotum is critical. Single incision scrotal orchiopexy is increasingly used for low-lying UDT. The aim of this study is to present our experience with parascrotal orchiopexy in the management of PET.
Materials And Methods:
A retrospective review of record of all the cases of PET operated between June 2015 and July 2025 was made, and the following parameters were studied: clinicodemographic profile, details of the operative procedure, and follow up.
Results:
There were 12 cases of PET during the study period with a mean age of 13.4 ± 5.0 months. The right side was more commonly affected than the left side (ratio 2:1). Clinical diagnosis was possible in most of them, and all underwent orchiopexy by parascrotal incision with a mean operative time of 47 ± 9.4 min. There were no complications, and all the testicles were located within respective scrotal sacs on follow-up ranging from 3 months to 10 years.
Conclusion:
Parascrotal incision is a feasible and cosmetic approach for orchiopexy in PET.
