Role of laparoscopy in the management of abdominal trauma

Abstract:
Laparoscopy has an important place in elective and non-traumatic emergency surgery. While exploratory laparotomy remains the standard in the surgical approach and management of unstable abdominal trauma patients, laparoscopy has evolved as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in selected trauma patients. This update, based on a recent review of the literature, examines the feasibility, reliability, and patient selection for laparoscopy in the diagnostic and/or therapeutic management of penetrating or blunt abdominal trauma, based on strict patient selection.
