Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the technical success, safety, and clinical outcomes of transarterial embolization for uterine arteriovenous fistulae (UAVFs). In this retrospective single-center cohort study, consecutive patients diagnosed with UAVFs and treated with percutaneous transarterial embolization between April 2007 and August 2024 were included. The primary endpoints were clinical success, defined as resolution of uterine bleeding and technical success, defined as complete embolization of the UAVF. Eighteen patients (median age, 36.5 years [range, 23-48 years]) were included. Clinical success was achieved in 94.4% (17/18) of patients, and technical success was achieved in all cases. Repeat embolization was required in 3 patients, and 1 patient ultimately underwent hysterectomy. Six patients achieved subsequent pregnancy. In conclusion, transarterial embolization is an effective treatment for UAVFs, demonstrating a 100% technical success rate and a 94.4% uterine preservation rate.
