Publication trends and hotspots of sacral neuromodulation and lower urinary tract dysfunction from 1993 to 2024: A

Introduction:
Sacral neuromodulation is increasingly recognized as an effective treatment for lower urinary tract dysfunction. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of publications involving sacral neuromodulation and lower urinary tract dysfunction, highlighting research trends over time.
Methods:
A systematic search in the Web of Science Core Collection database identified relevant publications. Bibliometric and visual analyses were performed with VOSviewer (version 1.6.20), CiteSpace (version 6.3.R1), and the "bibliometrix" package in R software (version 4.3.3) .
Results:
A total of 873 articles were analyzed, authored by 3219 contributors from 2557 institutions, published in 181 journals, with a citation total of 13,403. The number of annual publications exhibited a fluctuating upward trend from 1998, peaking at 60 articles in 2018, with the United States as the leading contributor. Maastricht University had the highest article output, and the Journal of Urology was the most influential.
Conclusion:
The analysis reveals evolving themes, notably "overactive bladder" and "quality of life." These findings provide insights for research prioritization and resource allocation, and may guide future investigations in this field.
