Abstract:
Three new hydrazone compounds derived from 3-pyridinecarboxaldehyde with hydrazides, and two new hydrazone compounds derived from nicotinohydrazide with aldehydes were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. They are 3,4-dihydroxy-N'-(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)benzohydrazide (1), 4-bromo-N'-(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)benzohydrazide (2), 4-methoxy-N'-(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)benzohydrazide (3), N'-(4-bromo-2-fluorobenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide (4) and N'-(2,5-dimethoxybenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide (5). The five compounds and a published compound N'-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide (6) were assayed for their antibacterial activities against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. typhi and S. aureus.
