Intention to leave work among nursing professionals at three university hospitals in Brazil

to analyze factors associated with intention to leave work among nursing professionals at three federal university hospitals in Brazil.

this was a cross-sectional multicenter study. Data were collected between October 2018 and September 2022, including personal and work-related data, job satisfaction, and intention to leave work. Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, and logistic regression tests were used.

the study included 429 nursing professionals with a mean age of 38.9 years, predominantly female (80%), and nursing technicians (66.2%). Those with higher education or graduate education showed a greater intention to leave their jobs (p=0.029), dissatisfied with their job (p<0.001), who considered staff size inadequate (p=0.026), younger (p=0.014) and with less experience (p=0.046). Low job satisfaction was associated with a three times greater likelihood of leaving the job (OR=3.519; CI=1.594-7.766; p=0.002).

dissatisfied nursing professionals are more likely to intend to leave their jobs.
