High-quality genome assemblies of 64 Geodermatophilaceae strains isolated from desert soils in Xinjiang, China

Abstract:
Geodermatophilaceae, a family within the phylum Actinomycetota, is commonly found in arid and nutrient-limited environments, yet comprehensive genomic resources for this group remain limited. Here, we report high-quality genome assemblies for 64 Geodermatophilaceae strains isolated from desert soils in two regions of Xinjiang, China. All isolates were obtained via cultivation and initially assigned to the family using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Whole-genome shotgun sequencing was performed on the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform, followed by standardized quality control, de novo assembly, and annotation pipelines. All genomes met high-quality criteria, with completeness ≥ 95%, contamination < 5%, and N50 > 5 kb; assembly integrity was further confirmed via conserved single-copy orthologs. Genome sizes ranged from 3.68 to 5.63 Mb, with GC contents of 73.8-75.9%. This dataset provides a well-characterized genomic resource for desert-derived Geodermatophilaceae and supports future comparative, functional, ecological, and taxonomic studies, as well as investigations of microbial adaptation in arid environments.
