How to Promote Medical Safety on Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery - Japan Experience

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) offers significant advantages, but the expansion of its indications and the increasing complexity of cases have introduced new challenges related to surgical safety and standardization. The Japan Society of Gynecologic and Obstetric Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy (JSGOE) have emerged as a leader in promoting high standards for MIGS safety and education in Japan. JSGOE has developed a multi-pronged strategy that includes comprehensive off-site training programs, hands-on surgical simulation, and structured e-learning modules. In addition, JSGOE has established rigorous accreditation systems for both individual surgeons and surgical institutions, ensuring quality and consistency across the practice settings. A nationwide complication reporting registry has also been implemented to collect the real-world data and guide continuous improvement efforts. These initiatives have contributed to the development of a robust safety culture and enhanced the competency of gynecologic endoscopists in Japan.
