The Frontal Air Sinus Analysis in Personal Identification and Gender Differentiation among Adult Bangladeshi

The frontal air sinus is an important measure for anatomist, radiologist, anthropologist, dentists and clinicians for diagonosis of diseases. The frontal air sinus value is also important in forensic scientists for sex differentiation, age determination and personal identification because individuals frontal sinus characteristics makes the frontal bone unique for every individual. The aim of this study was done to determine and compare the gender differences of frontal air sinus total area among the Bangladeshi adult. In the department of Anatomy of Dhaka Medical College, the cross sectional analytical study was done by applying the conventional and purposive sampling technique. This study was conducted from January 2016 to December 2016. The study was performed on 100 radiographs of caldwell view of skull of adult Bangladeshis. Out of 100 radiograph, 50 were of male and 50 were of female. The caldwell radiograph of the frontal air sinus of selected individual were collected and viewed on the x-ray view box, traced on transparent graph paper sheet placed on the each radiograph film and the Linear measurements of frontal air sinus area was obtained from the each radiograph by counting the boxes of transparent graphpaper sheet. Unpaired Student's t-test were done for statistical analysis of the results. In this study mean of the total area of the frontal air sinus was observed significantly higher (p=0.042) in male than female.
