A 17 year old male presented with subacute visual loss and bilateral optic disc swelling secondary to hyperostosis of his optic canals which was linked to severe vitamin A deficiency. Due to progressively deteriorating vision, he underwent decompression surgery to prevent blindness. Despite surgery, he did develop partial optic atrophy and his visual acuity remained reduced. Ours is the first case to report a presentation of bilateral optic disc oedema linked to severe vitamin A deficiency which was surgically treated with optic canal decompressions.
