Abstract:
Surgical repair of complex meniscal tears can be quite challenging, especially in the case of a failed meniscus repair. In this setting, meniscal volume may be lost, leading to an increased risk of osteoarthritis development. To prevent this from occurring, care should be taken to revise these complex tears using an inside-out technique. Further, a meniscal augmentation may be indicated to increase the volume of the meniscus. This technical note describes a technique using an iliotibial band (ITB) meniscal augmentation for a lateral meniscus revision inside-out radial and horizontal cleavage tear repair. An ITB graft is sutured over the meniscal repair zone with inside-out sutures to increase the meniscal volume and chance of meniscus healing.
