Digital competencies are vital for nursing faculty to provide high-quality education in a digitalized healthcare landscape.
Faculty face significant challenges integrating digital technologies into teaching, clinical education, and simulation.
There is a clear need for structured, context-specific faculty development programs.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify essential digital competencies for higher education nursing faculty.
To explore the challenges encountered during the integration of digital technologies in nursing education.
To propose recommendations for systematic faculty development in digital competencies.

Main Methods:

A mixed-methods, consensus-based Delphi study involving nursing faculty across five European countries.
Four iterative rounds of data collection using qualitative feedback and quantitative ratings based on the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu).
Expert consensus-building to adapt the DigCompEdu framework for nursing education.

Main Results:

Six key digital competence domains were identified: Professional Engagement, Digital Resources, Teaching and Learning, Assessment, Empowering Learners, and Facilitating Learners' Digital Competencies.
While basic digital skills (literacy, communication, safety) are well-developed, advanced competencies (content creation, copyright, programming) are less so.
Digital competencies are more readily applied in theoretical teaching than in clinical or laboratory settings.

Conclusions:

Nursing faculty recognize the importance of digital competencies for learner-centered teaching and professional growth.
Gaps in the application of digital competencies, particularly in practice-based education, require attention.
Enhanced institutional support, targeted faculty development, and adapted frameworks are crucial for effective digital integration in nursing education.
