Transmission optimization and mode crosstalk suppression in optical-system-modulated perfect vortex beams
Abstract:
This study investigates transmitter-side beam modulation of perfect vortex (PV) and focused perfect vortex (FPV) beams using a conventional two-lens beam-expanding collimation system. Three transmission scenarios of perfect vortex (PV) beams and focused perfect vortex (FPV) beams are investigated in free space and atmospheric turbulence. The results show that the system regulates the non-diffractive and focusing propagation regions of PV/FPV beams and improves the target OAM mode received probability under the adopted non-Kolmogorov weak-fluctuation model. The received probability is governed by the initial beam parameters, system magnification, FPV focal parameter, and receiver aperture radius. To optimize these coupled parameters, a Latin hypercube sampling (LHS)-assisted particle swarm optimization (PSO) combined with pattern search is used. The optimized FPV beam modulated by the beam-expanding collimation system maintains a higher received probability than direct FPV propagation at representative distances, providing theoretical guidance for transmitter-side beam and system parameter selection.

Phase Contrast and Differential Interference Contrast Microscopy
In-phase-contrast microscopes, interference between light directly passing through a cell and light refracted by cellular components is used to create high-contrast, high-resolution images without staining. It is the oldest and simplest type of microscope that creates an image by altering the wavelengths of light rays passing through the specimen. Altered wavelength paths are created using an annular stop in the condenser. The annular stop produces a hollow cone of...
