The addition of an extra-articular lateral reconstruction during anterior cruciate ligament repair has become increasingly popular, as recent reports indicate a lower risk of rerupture. There is a concern that this augmentation may change the patient's perception of how the knee functions and feels. Using the Forgotten Joint Score 12 to measure outcomes, there is no difference between those with the added stabilizing reconstruction and those with only a primary repair at two years. Adding the modified Lemaire procedure has no apparent deleterious effect on patients' perception of knee function.
