Mobile Health Applications for Prenatal Nursing Care: A Systematic Review

Abstract:
Maternal mortality is recognized as a global health challenge, with a maternal mortality ratio of 197 deaths per 100,000 live births. Mexico reported 34.7 deaths per 100,000 estimated deaths and only 66.2% received timely prenatal care, as a tool to address the lack of accessibility to healthcare services, mobile health applications emerge as an alternative to improve public health.
Aim:
analyze the scientific literature available worldwide between 2019 and 2024 on mobile health applications implemented in prenatal nursing care which have been validated, evaluated, and implemented into clinical care.
Methods:
systematic review following PRISMA guidelines and PICOT-D format as search strategy. Five electronic databases and Google Scholar were consulted with the use of keywords, in English and Spanish.
Results:
from 50 retrieved studies, three met the inclusion criteria. Despite the scarcity of studies, the results showed that mHealth applications when tailored to maternal needs serve as crucial strategy in improving prenatal care outcomes.
