Abstract:
Malnutrition is common among critically ill older adults in intensive care units (ICUs) and is associated with adverse outcomes. This cross-sectional study assessed nutritional status and feeding practices among 250 ICU patients aged ≥ 60 years in Vietnam. Nutritional risk was evaluated using body mass index (BMI), Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002), and the modified Nutrition Risk in the Critically Ill (mNUTRIC) score. Risk prevalence differed across tools: 88.8% were malnourished or at risk by SGA, 84.4% were high risk by NRS-2002, and 29.2% by mNUTRIC. Early enteral nutrition was initiated in 99.6% of patients within 24 hours. These findings provide a data-driven basis for integrating nutritional risk screening into electronic health record systems to enable automated identification, monitoring, and management of nutritional risk in ICU care.
