Cervical Cancer Elimination Must Centre Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women

Abstract:
Australia is on track to become the first country to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. However, this achievement cannot be claimed equitably if Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women continue to be disproportionately affected by social and systemic barriers to screening and treatment. This commentary argues that cervical cancer elimination must be grounded in cultural safety, health system structural reform and Aboriginal-led health promotion. It calls for urgent investment in community-controlled approaches that centre Indigenous knowledges, relationships and leadership.

Cancer-Critical Genes II: Tumor Suppressor Genes
When the function of certain critical genes, especially those involved in cell cycle regulation and cell growth signaling cascades, gets disrupted, it upsets the cell cycle progression. Such cells with unchecked cell cycles start proliferating uncontrollably and eventually develop into tumors.
